Q1. What is the educational qualification needed for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026?

You must have passed Class 10 or Matriculation from a recognised school board in India. Mathematics and English are compulsory subjects at the Class 10 level. You also need working knowledge of the local language of the postal circle you choose. Candidates waiting for a Class 10 result are not eligible, since the pass certificate is required at verification.

Q2. Is there any written exam or interview for the 23757 Gramin Dak Sevak posts?

No. There is no written test, no computer based test, and no interview for GDS posts. Selection is done purely on the basis of Class 10 marks. The Department prepares a merit list circle wise and category wise. Document verification follows for the candidates who appear in the merit list.

Q3. What is the age limit for India Post GDS 2026 and how is the cutoff date calculated?

The minimum age is 18 years and the maximum age is 40 years. Age is calculated as on the last date of application, that is 21 September 2026. OBC candidates get 3 years relaxation, while SC and ST candidates get 5 years. PwD candidates get 10 years, and the relaxation grows for OBC, SC and ST PwD applicants. Ex-Servicemen get relaxation as per existing government rules.

Q4. How much is the application fee and which candidates are exempted?

General, OBC and EWS candidates pay a fee of Rs 100 only. SC, ST and PH candidates pay nothing at all. Female candidates of every category are fully exempt from the fee. Payment can be made through Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking or UPI. A submitted form without payment is treated as incomplete and gets rejected.

Q5. Can I correct or edit my application form after final submission?

Yes. The Department opens a correction window after the application deadline. For this cycle, the edit window runs on 23 and 24 September 2026. You can modify eligible personal and academic details during this period. Changes must be saved before the window closes at 5:00 PM on the final day.

Q6. How is the India Post GDS merit list prepared?

Marks from the four compulsory Class 10 subjects are counted for merit. The score is converted into a percentage and rounded to four decimal places. Candidates with higher percentages rank higher in the circle wise list. Graduation or any higher degree does not add weightage to the merit score. Ties are usually resolved by rules mentioned in the official notification.

Q7. Which documents are required during India Post GDS document verification?

Original Class 10 marksheet and pass certificate are needed for date of birth proof. A local language study certificate or language test pass certificate may be asked for. Valid caste, EWS or disability certificates must be produced in original form. Passport size photograph and a government photo identity proof are also required. Candidates failing verification lose their place in the merit list.

Q8. Where can I submit the India Post GDS online form and check updates?

Submit your application only through the official GDS portal at indiapost.gov.in. The registration link was open from 31 August to 19 September 2026. The application submission window closed on 21 September 2026 at 5:00 PM. Always track merit list notices on the same official portal, not on third party sites.
